I don’t tend to do overtime. I’m already at work 4 days a week for 11 hours each day so I really value my day off in the middle. I’m also the only full time nurse where I work so the part time nurses tend to do the overtime (covering holidays etc).
I live away from my family (approximately 80 miles to my closest relative) but I think the distance keeps me apart rather than my work. They work full time too so they’re kept busy by work a lot too.
I frequently work more hours than I am strictly paid for. However as a GP partner the responsibility for managing whatever comes through the surgery door rests with me and the other GP partners. We do not go home until we are happy patients attending that day have been managed appropriately. Any paperwork arising that day also has to be completed. My salary is not really a payment based on hours worked but a share of the practice profits.
