• Question: how long was your training, did you enjoy it?

      so after A-levels I did 5 years at Medical School to qualify as a doctor. Then I did a year as a pre-registration junior doctor to get on the medical register. Then, as I was wanted to be a GP I did 3 years on a GP training course – 1 year in a GP practice and 2 yr in hospital doing various training posts – so in total it took 9 years training to qualify as a GP.

      After my GCSEs and A-Levels, I took a long break. I then did 3 years at university to become an Adult Nurse. Then I did an additional year to become a Practice Nurse. Nursing and medicine is a continual learning process, you are always training so you need to be committed to keeping up to date with the facts.

      5 year at medical school + 7 years as a junior doctor (I started out doing hospital medicine before I changed to train as a GP) = 11 years
      Like everything there were bits that were challenging (e.g.exams, lack of sleep when working on call in hospital) but overall it was an enjoyable and varied experience.

      I did not do any specific training to be a Practice Manager, however I have done many managerial courses over the years on such things as diversity, H&S, finance etc. The most important aspect of being a manger is your life experience and I have had a very good life so yes I did enjoy it.
