None of my family were doctors – so I’m not quite sure where it first came from. Around the age of 14-15 I remember starting to think that medicine could be interesting and a way of helping people. I also was a great fan of a TV programme called MASH which was a black comedy set in a mobile surgical hospital in the Korean War. It showed the compassion of medics and the black humour they have to cope with the work they had to deal with. So it was probably a combination of the above. whatever it was, I’ve never regretted going into Medicine.
