I’ll be honest I’m not sure what you mean. It’s not a diagnosis I make. Do you mean multiple identity disorder (MID?) I have never seen that in the UK although in the US you do see some of that. I’m not sure if it is because we don’t pick it up or are labelling it differently or if there is something different in our geographical areas.
Richard: It is a real thing, however as a therapist we try not to get caught up in the diagnosis debate, however there are screening tools we can help with establishing the likelihood of the condition. I have worked with quite of a few individuals with difficulties associated with this diagnosis, I tend to work pragmatically, what ever label we give it, it is still associated with psychological distress and primarily distress around “identity”.
