mandy: our work is entirely in the NHS
we work for an NHS Trust
but I have also done work at a school , and for a social services/ health services project
some people also do private practice
We are all part of the NHS. The NHS is like a really big umbrella and under it is every GP, hospital (psychiatric and physical health), walk in centre and lots more. Sometimes hospitals can be private, where people will pay for services, and some doctors work privately either full time or doing extra work on top of their NHS work.
I have worked in the NHS and also for independent sectors. There are pros and cons of each. In the NHS you feel more protected and part of a wider body. In the same way as you have state schools and private ones, you can have both types of hospital in the UK.
