When I worked in a nursing home we used to have patients who were on what we would call “end of life care” where we would look after someone who was coming to the end of their life. It’s an honour to be part of someone’s live in anyway and trying to help them whatever it is. If someone is very poorly in medicine they call them the “deteriorating patient” and that’s when doctors and nurses intervene to help stop the from dying, and we work as a team and with other teams to help the patient get better.
Hi, Julie here. Yes unfortunately this thought does happen sometimes and we do all we can do make sure it doesn’t happen. It’s important we also share any concerns we have about our patients as a team.
Richard here: Yes, thank fully we work in teams and we can hopefully up the support for our service users, sometimes the fact that we think this is helpful but sometimes it is important to speak to your colleagues about any assessment that you make. so that you can talk through the specifics of your fears. .
There have been times yes, but that’s one of your roles- to help others how may be suicidal. There is plenty of help available and no-one has done it under my care.
yes we can really worry about someone, they may be suicidal, or even die as a result of an accidental overdose. but we share concerns with them and their team and get extra help – visiting them/ safe haven/ crisis line or assess for admission if seems they are really risky
