We can’t always prevent it, but there are some things you can do to reduce risk They’re the obvious ones like don’t smoke or drink too much, eat healthy, exercise, use your brain regularly.
Like Ed says, the important thing is to keep yourself mentally and physically as fit as you can. Puzzles are good!
In some types of dementia there are medications that can offer some relief of symptoms (e.g. people might be able to concentrate better or their memory will improve) but unfortunately these medications don’t change the underlying disease process (i.e. it doesn’t slow things down or stop it) and the medication might stop working after some time.
