      mandy : I did two volunteer posts with art therapists and a foundation course and workshops so I had a good idea before training

      I volunteered in a local hospital when I was 16 and I liked how the nurses talked to people and the care they showed to families. I kind of knew from then that I wanted to work in a caring or nursing role.

      Definitely agree with the other answers – I did some work experience and volunteering in the NHS and in care homes.

      Sometimes it’s a late decision – I have lots of friends who switched from Nursing to Medicine, and some that have come from backgrounds such as florists, banking and teaching!

      I think you never really know until you do it – when you start working and it doesn’t feel like work you’ll know.
