Cat ( music therapy). There are a lot of opportunities in the NHS, from clinical face to face working with patients to a host of administration jobs, data analysis, research, IT, Human resources. All jobs that contribute towards an organisation that aims to look after everyone’s health.

mandy: it is good knowing you are doing something useful in the world
we get really good feedback from people who use our services, and our outcome measures show that we are helping them
it is important that NHS treatment is free at the point of delivery so accessable to all

Steven here, I would say that the NHS has a place/role to suit most people. From clinical roles like doctors, nurses, therapists, recovery workers, support workers, healthcare assistants through to non clinical roles like business managers, reception, porters, HR, management and lots more. All of these make a positive difference to peoples lives and the running of the NHS. The NHS gives you a sence of pride and achievement.

      Hi!
      Emma here

I think there will be something for everyone, whether that is working in admin, working in a role where you look after patients (doctor, nurse, physio, midwife, pharmacist etc), or behind the scenes (in the labs, cleaning, cooking, researching).

The best thing about it for me is that we are like one big team! The NHS is the fifth biggest employer in the world, which is mad. But we feel like one big family who all want to help other people. We muck in together when it’s busy or we’re having a bad day, and all celebrate the highs when our patients do well.

Plus, I think that at some point everyone will use the NHS and will sometimes need it to save their life, I feel a huge sense of pride at being able to give back to an organisation like the NHS that is (relatively!) for the people and not dictated by who is in power.

The NHS is the envy of the world in my opinion. Even though it’s vast, it’s incredible to think that they provide free healthcare to all and don’t discriminate. Imagine in other places around the world where if you fall ill you first think whether you can afford to go into hospital and those that can’t lose out. We are so lucky to have this in our country. I would encourage anyone thinking about it to join and be part of something really amazing.
