Richard. You would need to have experience of working as a carer as well as a first degree in one of the arts, usually the care working comes after the degree. Its important to have some feel for what it means to work and look after someone who might be dependant on your care.
Hi Faye, Music and musical arts are great subjects, and I would always follow what you are passionate about. In addition for now, if you wanted to be a psychiatrist, you have to go to medical school which means doing some sciences at GCSE and A levels (currently at least biology and chemistry at A levels). I think focussing on arts as well as sciences makes you a more rounded person and outside work if you have talents such as playing musical instruments then never give up on that! It’s always important to have extra hobbies and things outside work that you enjoy.
music and arts are good not only for arts therapies but in occupational therapy (dotn think we have one in the chat room??) and in support roles. there is growing knowledge about arts being good for us . important in dementia where people can still appreciate music and dance when other parts fo the brain not functuioning
