I find it difficult when I am helping patients who have had very traumatic or sad experiences, because although I can help them get through the difficult situation I can’t take the pain away. I also find it difficult giving bad news to people.

Hi, it’s Julie here. In all honesty, the hardest bit of my job is managing staff and trying to provide the best service with financial and political constraints. The patients are the easiest!

My most difficult cases are quite upsetting because it doesn’t just involve the mother but their baby as well.

Richard: Perhaps sometimes having to have difficult conversations, about how nothing will help or cure someone of their suffering, or take the bad things that have happened to them away, a pill cannot do that, only compassion, acceptance and a willingness to re learn that trust in others is a pathway to finding one self again.

The job can be demanding and stretches you but I think this is a good thing. Initially I did find the long hours hard, but this gets easier as you climb the ladder. I always wanted a job that was not easy as I think I would get bored.
