  There is a strict list of GCSEs you will need but typically a C or above in English and 2 other subjects is enough to get into the work. Volunteering in the NHS is another way to get you the experience so that when you apply for a counselling course, you at least have an idea of what the work is like.

  there are lots of types of therapists and counsellors – CBT is used a lot now with mild/ moderate depression/ anxiety via GP practices (IAPT) not sure the qualifications needed for that CBT training.
