you need some science A levels- chemistry and biology when I did it. The you go to uni and get a degree in medicine. And then you specialise. It sounds like a long journey but it is a really great one where you make friends for life and learn so much about medicine and yourself. I would love it if there wasn’t such an onus on sciences as many people would make great doctors whether they did sciences or not.

      Emma here 🙂
Science A-levels (I did biology, chemistry and psychology, grade As) and then a degree in Medicine. Some people do medicine as a second degree but it’s getting very expensive to do that these days!

It is hard work but good fun and worth every second!!

Some Unis have outreach or access schemes for people that are relatively disadvantaged applying to medicine (e.g. first one to go to Uni in family, low income background etc) – worth having a look as they can help with interview prep etc, sometimes guarantee an interview and might offer at lower grades 🙂
