• Question: what was your hardest case?

      Someone turned up and handed me their baby because they wanted to kill themself. It took a while but everything worked out in the end.

      There was once a pregnant woman who was hitting her stomach because she had a false belief that she had aliens inside her. It was distressing to see but we had to support her through that and sometimes hold her hands gently so she doesn’t harm herself or the baby. Thankfully both are now doing well.

    Working on the wards sometimes people who are very unwell can be threatening, or can be verbally abusive. That can be difficult if you can’t get to know someone and it can feel harder to help. It’s hard not to take it personally but you have to remember that they are frightened, distressed and sometimes confused.
