Hi James. It you love your job you never have to work a day in your life, as the saying goes. A good job is where you look forward to every day and you leave feeling like you’ve made a difference. Being a psychiatrist is a great job because you end up meeting so many interesting people all with their amazing stories, and you are able to make a difference in their lives. I can’t think of anything more rewarding. You can do something relatively minor but it makes a great difference to them, or you can sometimes end up saving someone’s life. And you get to do this day in day out, and it’s never dull. You can also mix it up and just work with children, or older people, or those that have committed crimes. I also teach at University and do some research so there is lots of scope to find something that suits you.
I just LOVE working with so many different people. Working in healthcare is unlike any other career- you get to help people when they are sometimes at their most vulnerable (sick, depressed, lonely) and can make a huge difference to them. No day is the same and you never know what will be coming through the doors.
I feel so proud every day to work in the NHS. You are all in one big family who want the very best for the people you are caring for.
Steven here, I think for me the reason I love my job is because you get to meet and work with real people who need some support and support that I can provide. No day is the same and every person is deferent with a different set of needs.

its such a rewarding job to do. You see a person at the point of being acutely unwell to achieving recovery and getting discharged from hospital.
