None of my family are in healthcare. My parents were both French teachers and my sister did languages at uni, so I am an anomaly in the family!
I do find this difficult sometimes when they do not understand the medical terms that I use at the dinner table and do not understand about the long and hard hours that I work.
You find at medical school that a lot of medics come from families of doctors. I guess it means that Iv chosen to do it myself and knew that I wanted to do it.
My husband is in the ambulance service so we share common experiences, but no one from my immediate family has a healthcare background. My brother is in the fire service though so there is may be a slight link to emergency services!
None of my family are in healthcare. My mum was a teacher and my dad an electrical engineer. My mum asked me one day what I wanted to be, and I said I didn’t know. She said “well, you like science and people, why don’t you become a doctor?” and I realised she’d hit the nail on the head! She’s a very wise woman!
