No, I am a Registered Nurse. You used to have to do your Nurse training before you could train to be a Midwife, but now you can go straight into training to become a Midwife without doing Nursing first.
no, i’m a GP. However, I have to say the midwives were simply incredible when my wife gave birth last year. She was in labour for 48 hours and we went through 5 shifts’ worth of midwives by the time Beatrice arrived. Every single midwife was amazingly skilled and professional and calm. I have no idea how they do it!
Deborah and Phil have already given some information on this, but just to add a slightly more medical example… There are doctors who work closely with midwives to look after women who are pregnant/giving birth where there are some kinds of complications – they are called obstetricians and this is a speciality you can train in after medical school.
