Yes, most of the time. We all have good days and bad days. Generally I feel I get good job satisfaction and that my patients and work colleagues appreciate what I do. Making a positive contribution to peoples lives can be very rewarding when we get it right.

As far as anybody can, I really enjoy my job! Not many people can say that most (if not all) days that when they go to work they make a difference to somebody’s life. Yes at times it can be challenging, with long hours, angry patients, stressed colleagues and a resource-limited service; but in spite of all of this I feel really privileged. I also am really enjoying the opportunity to teach in my current role – I’ve always enjoyed teaching and it’s great to work with so many enthusiastic students to help them reach their goal of qualifying as a doctor too.

I really love being a GP! I don’t like the pressure at times – sometimes it feels like all 11,500 patients need to be seen in a single day! However, I do love the way I can make a real difference to so many people in a single day. Being a partner in the practice also means that we need to plan for the next 5-10 years. Do we have enough doctors and nurses? Do we need more administrative staff? Are there problems with the buildings that need fixing soon? These issues can be really challenging, but when you make improvements to the service you provide, it’s really rewarding. I also love that I can help with research studies in my practice and also I love teaching medical students. That’s extremely rewarding.

The majority of days I love my job! There will always be bad days and difficult situations, like any job, but medicine has so many benefits these usually outweigh the problems for me. I think that’s because difficult things like stressful workloads and antisocial hours are temporary, whereas being able to help people, making positive impacts even if small, and working with good colleagues will always be possible.
