I think the air ambulance probably gets called out several times a day on a busy day but at least once most days. As Deborah says, I’m not sure what role the pilot has in actually attending to the patient, but obviously they play an important role in helping them. We often forget the ‘back stage’ roles in healthcare but without them we, as front line staff, wouldn’t be able to do our jobs!
As Rob says it’s quite variable depending how many times you get called out. Often being on an air ambulance is something people do part time around their other job. By its nature you’d see a lot of emergencies but they could vary from minor to major incidents, and the role of the pilot will usually be different to that of the medical team.
