Try not to leave all the revision to the last minute – although I do work best under pressure. Work out the best way for you to learn, I am a bit of a list and note taker. Always divide up your revision day in to three and make sure you have time out as one of the sessions to do something you enjoy instead of studying.
For me it was always a case of doing past papers, and then marking them myself so that I became familiar with what examiners were looking for. I would do a paper, mark it myself and then use the things I got wrong to then decide what revision I needed to do for the next couple of days and then repeat the process again.
I had quite a strict routine:
-I would do no revision until 6 weeks before exams (apart from coursework)
-I would never study past 9pm (I need my sleep to function)
-I’d always use Sundays for rest/seeing my friends & going to church
-I’d sit in the library with a big bag of skittles, a bottle of lucozade and the bottle of water!
My theory was that the brain uses glucose alone to function, so you need to keep your sugar supplies up and keep your brain hydrated to study. However, I wouldn’t recommend that strategy now – I tended to crash when the sugar wore off and fall asleep in my books! However, i am really pleased that I went to bed early & gave myself a day off each week – it definitely helped me work more efficiently for the rest of the time.
I found writing down things rather than just reading them works for me, so if a read up on a subject I try to then write a summary of what I’ve read and it sticks in my mind better
