Our role is to provide mobility assessments for elderly patients who may have had a fall or are struggling with getting around. We also make sure that they are safe when going home by providing equipment like walking sticks.
We also work with other healthcare workers and provide information about other services such as carers who may come to help our patients when they’re at home.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up at 6:30am and have a quick shower and coffee to keep me awake (I am not very good at waking up and sometimes turn my alarm off!). I walk to work everyday as it is only a few minutes away and start my day at 8am (unless i’m working a late and then I get to stay in bed a bit longer and start at 11am). I perform walking assessments on elderly patients who the doctors think might need some extra. Lunch is anywhere between 12 and 1 depending how busy we are and then it’s back to the wards and I finish work at 4pm.

Quick Fire Questions
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
kickboxing coach physio!
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Bastille or Royal Blood!
What's your favourite food?
Medium rare sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce!
What did you want to be after you left school?
PE teacher, sport coach or personal trainer.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Nope!
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
The best thing I ever did in my career was take an extra 10 minutes after my shift had ended to talk to a patient who had been struggling with his mood as he was feeling quite upset while he was in hospital. I did this quite often for the patient who was with us for several days. When the patient was ready to go home, I met his wife who had come to pick him up. I was able to have a quick chat with her and she told me that her husband had spoken about me quite regularly and said I had been really supportive of him. She thanked me for looking after him and told me that I really helped to cheer him up.
What or who inspired you to do your job?
I had always wanted a job in healthcare but never really decided what I want to do. in 2015 I injured my left knee. It took a very long time to heal because I didn’t have physio and I avoided walking again for a very long time. After doing some research I began to do some simple exercises and that sparked my interest in physiotherapy!
If you weren't in healthcare, what job would you do?
Before I went back to university I was a roof tiler, so maybe i’d still be on a building site?!
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
- A cure for all the conditions we don’t know how to treat yet.

Why did the banana go to the doctors? Because it wasn’t peeling very well!
