How misunderstood it is. People think NHS managers are there to get in the way of medicine, cut costs and things like that, when I am really there to make life easier for the clinical team and to help them understand how to help patients better. I could make more money in the private sector – it annoys me people think I am here to be nasty when I joined the NHS because I really want to make life better for people.

The hardest aspect is trying to work out how best to spend money. There’s only a set amount and so many demands on it

The hardest thing about being a GP at the moment I think is that we have to a lot of things/work/development etc, but the funding doesn’t really keep up with it.
There are a lot of patients, people live longer and so have more complicated conditions and there aren’t enough doctors or other health care workers around so the workload can be very high. When there are lots of people though it is great and you can really make a difference to people. You should all consider it and we can continue to grow the health service and make it better for everyone! 🙂
