      There are so many things! I love when someone comes to see you with a worry about thier health, it becomes a mystery to solve. By asking questions and using my hands to examine them, I sometimes feel like a detective. Putting together all the clues and making a diagnosis is always exciting. Sometimes you save a life, sometimes you realise it might be a bad problem, like cancer but being able to solve the clues and then start the person on their treatment path. Sometimes simply holding their hand and reassuring them is enough. It’s all amazing!

      There are lots of things I love about my job but I would say my favourite part is seeing patients. Often they are really worried about what is potentially wrong with them and I get find ways to help them and make them better.

      Although I see lots of new faces each day, there are some patients who I have known for ages and really look forward to seeing.

      Every day is different so I could never get bored! Every day presents a new challenge, and something I don’t know, so I am constantly looking things up and learning something new. It’s interesting to find out about all the different things that impact on someone’s health – like a jigsaw, piecing together why they have symptoms. What they eat, how they sleep, their work, their personal relationships, their exercise, their relaxation and hobbies, their family history, their habits (good and bad!) and their beliefs and expectations all contribute to why they are sitting in front of me. As a ‘people person’, there isn’t a better job!

      It’s difficult to pick just three but I’ll do my best!

      One thing would have to be the variety that the job offers. No matter where you work – be it a hospital ward, a GP surgery, an outpatient clinic setting, A&E – there will never be two days that are the same and you never know what sort of problems you will be faced with which keeps the job interesting and stimulating every time you go to work.

      Another is working as part of a big team. I’ve always enjoyed working with other people and although there will of course be times when you have projects or work to do independently, there is always a team around you to support you when you need it, to bounce ideas off, and learn from.

      And finally, but for me most importantly, is the impact you have on people’s lives every single day. You may not be saving lives in a dramatic way but every time you go to work and you interact with patients, you have to potential to change their lives for the better and I don’t think you can really get better than that!

      My job is so varied and challenging that no two days are the same and I am constantly learning something new. If I had to pick a favourite part it would definitely be getting the chance to work as part of a fantastic team. Everyone who I work with has chosen this career because they care about people and want to make a difference to the lives of others, it’s great to be a part of that!

      Hi Courtney, thanks for including me in this one! It wasn’t on my list before. There’s lots to choose from. To add to everyone else’s great comments I’d add my favourite parts are teaching trainees and sharing the benefits of my experience (and mistakes) and that’s why I’m really into this experience- it’s really great fun. You all ask really good questions!

      I have just received a good bottle of red wine from a grateful patient- whilst the wine is really lovely the thanks and appreciation from patients is a real boost, knowing that what you have done for somebody has really helped them in some way. Sometimes what might seem quite a trivial remark or change or treatment to us can be life changing to patients.

      Caring can be tiring, hard work but these thanks make it all worthwhile

      My favourite part of being a medical student is learning about different medical condition and putting that knowledge into practice by helping people.
      I also have a part time job as a summer school ambassador and helping inspire prospective students for Widening Participation has to be my favourite part of the job!
