I studied Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Spanish and I dropped General Studies after my AS year. Strangely, Spanish was by far my favourite subject at A level but I never had any doubt that medicine was what I wanted to do when I left school and I still feel the same now.
Many (BUT NOT ALL) medical schools expect you to do chemistry, and a lot expect biology as well or a second science subject. Nearly all expect you to do 3 A levels and they DON’T COUNT general studies or critical thinking. I think it’s correct that none of them demand you do a 4th A level. Choosing your 3rd subject (after two sciences) can be difficult, but probably the most important thing is to choose something you are interested in and good at.
