I’ll use the same answer I gave to Jess, you both think of nice questions Leah!
I remember really enjoying the placements I had as a medical student- in elderly care or in a hospice, in cardiology or surgery, or maternity or on the childrens ward- it became clear to me that the only career would be one that covered them all- GP for me!
General Practice attracts people like me who always thought they’d end up here and people who find that a particular speciality isn’t for them and they value the qualities of a career in General Practice- talking and developing relationships with patients and families over time in the community, where levels of trust and satisfaction are generally higher.

There was no overall plan. I knew I wanted to be a doctor at school and the rest has worked itself out among the way. The joy of medicine is that there are so many options!

I started thinking about becoming a doctor at quite a young age and I always liked the idea of working as a GP as it is so varied both in types of medical problems you come across and types of patients you see. This was confirmed when I went to sit in at GP practices as a medical student and then again when I had junior doctor jobs in GP.

There’s wasn’t a specific moment that inspired me but a combination of lots of different experiences. If I had to pick one, it would be my Year 12 experience were I shadowed doctors. It helped me to realise what a privilege it is to help people when they really need it
