• Question: what do u like about the nhs

      I think the NHS is brilliant, if we lived in America, we would either need to pay loads of money for simple things like GP visits or would have to have a decent job where we can get health insurance to help to cover medical bills.

      The NHS is full of fabulous people that work so hard and keep everyone healthy.

      I feel like I am in a recognised career working for the NHS and we can apply for a Blue Light Card, where we get discounts from various shops and restaurants.

      So there are a few reasons why I love the NHS 🙂

      I like the fact that the NHS is for all at the point of contact and helps a lot of people who would not be able to afford treatment if they were ill in a different country. We are very lucky to have the NHS.
      We need more people to join the NHS to keep it running well.

      affordable care for all and we can still do so much with proactive care so instead of only curing the problem, we can start helping/educate people to improve their life and prevent their deterioration

      The people! There are some amazing caring people I work with. I have been cared for as a child by some wonderful doctors and nurses when I was in an out of hospital with my asthma and as an adult with heart problems.

      I totally agree with the principle of it being free at the point of access

      It is free for everyone living in the UK. In most countries healthcare costs money. The NHS provides care for everyone no matter your ability to pay. The quality of healthcare doesn’t depend on how much you can afford.

      I like that the NHS means that people can get healthcare regardless of their own wealth. I have worked in America, and people are trapped in jobs they hate because if they lose their healthcare they won’t get treatment for their existing illnesses, or they literally have to sell their houses for surgery. Some of our healthcare outcomes are actually better too – women here are less likely to die in childbirth than in the USA, for example, because we get routine care free at the point of use.

      If you mean what do I like about working in the NHS rather than the NHS itself, I like the chance to help people and knowing that even as an administrator, my work makes things better for people. I like the people I meet – most of my colleagues over the years have been lovely and interesting (although with 1.3 million people in the NHS you can’t help there being a few people you don’t hit it off with!). I find my work interesting.

      As the others have said the fact we can access healthcare that is free when we need it, this is a luxury many other countries don’t have. For me it is also about all the opportunities it gives you, there are so many roles you can do and your career can be so varied and interesting. Most importantly you know you are doing something worthwhile that helps people its incredibly rewarding.

      It is a service that is doing good every day – the people are very caring and enthusiastic in making it better. Everyone works hard and you have a sense of achievement at the end of every day. We all make a difference. Roles are diverse and interesting
