I went to Sheffield Medical School- It was close to home and had a really good programme. I also really like Sheffield as a city.

Nick Hurst answered on 27 Mar 2023:
I initially attended Sheffield Hallam University to gain my Paramedic qualification as this was one of only a few universities to provide the course. However 18 years later the course is now widespread in many universities. This means the choice of where to study has widened which is good for you.

I went to Imperial College London. I studied at both their Medical School and did an intercalated BSc at their Business School. I picked it because of its amazing location in London (right next to the Natural History Museum and Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington) and also it’s course structure (primarily a traditional pre-clinical and then clinical phased course).

I went to University of Nottingham.
It is a good university, with a good programme for nursing and it was also in commuting distance from my house. -

I went to Edinburgh. I wanted a city centre university rather than a campus university, and it asked for AAB at A Level to get in – at the time it was harder to get hold of proper information like post graduate employment rates or research standings so that was the best way I had to get an idea how good the university was. There are better ways to choose now!
There was also a degree of personal thought that went into it too. I wanted to be far enough from my mum where she wouldn’t worry or hover, but I had an aunt in Edinburgh who was not a natural worrier or hoverer but who would be around if I ever needed her. And the university “felt right” when I visited it, the students showing us round were friendly and the lecturers seemed nice.

I went to Nottingham – it had the “old style” lecture based medical course, which really suited my learning style. Its also a really fun city! I have a bit of family nearby so there was some support if I needed it (its quite far from home though, im from Southampton)

Claire Osborne answered on 30 Mar 2023:
I’ve studied at both Nottingham and Derby University – I chose Nottingham for my Nursing BSc as it was ranked highly in the league tables then did my MSC at Derby as my NHS Trust fed into this University for the ACP MSc course. Also from a Geographical point of view I was able to attend the campus easily.

I went to the University of Leeds. Reasons included – I liked it when I went to an open day – felt comfortable there, liked the city etc, proximity to home – was just over an hour on the train and straightforward route which I felt was important to me, liked the course structure, good reputation.

I went to University Of Derby after school to do environment science since at that point I wanted to work in that field. I later after many years of working as a manager in charities completed a leadership and management degree with the Open University as this meant I was able to work and study at the same time

I studied to be a nurse at Nottingham university and then later completed my MSc in advanced clinical practice at Derby. For me it was about being close to home and I made some great friends along the way 🙂

Open University – just to do a degree (I did Earth Sciences). Then I did a degree at Derby University. Then the best one was a Masters at the University of Nottingham.

Angela Musson answered on 3 Jul 2023:
I am studying with the Open University so I can continue to work full-time.
Take a look at the options – it is never too late to get a degree -
